1. The property must be rekeyed upon lease to a new tenant. This is provided at the property managment's expense. The property can be rekeyed at the request of the tenant at the tenant's expense.
2. A keyless dead bolt must be installed on each exterior door (includes garage door). This is for the tenant's protection so that no one can enter the premises with a key when the tenant is at home without the tenant's permission.
3. A door viewer must be installed at the lanlord's expense on any exterior door unless the door has a window that allows a person outside to be visible before the door is opened.
4. Sliding glass doors must be equipped with an interior locking device such as a "Charlie" bar to prevent the door from being opened without the locking device being deactivated.
5. Double sided deadbolts must be removed before renting property. The double sided deadbolts are illegal for rental property in Texas due to the inability to open a locked door without a key in case of a fire or other emergency.
Contact your landlord, leasing agent, or managment company if the leased property does not comply with Texas Law. Let them know that Tefco Locksmith can help bring their property into compliance with the law. |
